LINEAR IMAGE (2011)

EnglishČesky

While reading a text, we follow the basic units of information in a linear way. Character by character, line by line.

But while 'reading' an image, we usually do not use this method. In this case we first notice some contrast parts of the picture and then continue deeper into the structure up to a concrete details. There is no deterministic direction to follow. Moreover, everybody has his own way of exploring pictures, which depends on his own interest and previous experience.

So let's think now about digital image and its representation consisting of pixels. Isn't it also the cluster of basic units sorted into the lines? And what would we get, if we tried to read the image in the same linear way as text?
